Chennai: Triplicane police on Sunday arrested one more person in connection with the alleged ₹35 crore bribery and intimidation case involving Uthangarai TVK MLA Dr N Ilaiyaraja, taking the total number of arrests to nine. The arrested person was identified as Krishnan, 33, who worked as a driver for Thirunavukkarasu, 45, one of the accused in the case. Thirunavukkarasu was arrested on Wednesday along with Naresh, 40, and Thiyagarajan, 40. Five more persons were arrested the following day in connection with the case. Former minister V Senthil Balaji and his brother V Ashok Kumar have also been named in the case. On Saturday, Triplicane police served summons on the two at their residence in Karur, directing them to appear for an inquiry on Monday. Further investigation is underway.
