Varanasi: Two motorcycle-borne youths were killed when a speeding pickup van rammed into their vehicle near Gajapur on Badagaon-Kapsethi bypass road under Badagaon police station area, on Sunday morning.Badagaon police station in charge Praveen Kumar Singh said the deceased were identified as Satish (24) of Sherwanipur village and his friend Moolchand (25) of Pater village. During police investigation, it came to light that the two had left home on a motorcycle to buy petrol. As soon as their motorcycle turned near Gajapur petrol pump, an onion laden speeding pickup van coming from the direction of Kuru hit them hard.Police reached the spot, took the vehicle and driver into custody and rushed the injured to the hospital, where doctors declared both dead. The accident was so severe that both youths were thrown onto the road, while their motorcycle got stuck in the pickup and was dragged to a considerable distance.Badagaon police were passing through the area at the time of the accident and they intercepted the pickup van and took driver Indrajeet Verma of Aswalpur into custody. Police also seized the vehicle.Policemen rushed both injured youths to the local primary health centre where doctors declared them dead. The bodies were sent for post mortem.Family members of the deceased youths said both were in the tent house business and had left home on Sunday morning for Kuru. Moolchand was married and was father of a 1-year-old son. His father Chandrabhan works as a labourer at a brick kiln. Satish was unmarried. His father Jagannath works as a labourer, and he was youngest among three brothers.
