Chandigarh: UT Police conducted autopsies of two men who died in a building collapse in Industrial Area Phase 2 and handed over the bodies to their families on Sunday. No FIR has been registered so far, with police initiating inquest proceedings.The incident occurred on Saturday evening when a two‑storey structure collapsed during renovation. The victims were identified as Tarun Jain of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, and Tarun Kaushik of Solan, Himachal Pradesh. Five labourers working at the site sustained injuries.Police said both victims had rented the building to set up a motorcycle dealership. They were carrying out renovation work, assisted by the labourers.Rescue teams worked for nearly five hours to clear debris and pull out the victims. Doctors at GMCH‑32 declared them brought dead. The injured labourers are out of danger, with three discharged after treatment.Sector‑31 police stated that no case was registered since renovation was undertaken by the deceased themselves. A team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) inspected the site and collected evidence for further examination.Officials said the probe will focus on structural safety and circumstances leading to the collapse, while families have demanded accountability.
