Ahmedabad: A team of the fire department, entrusted with carrying out rescue operations across the city, had to seek assistance from its own department after a rescue van accidentally got stuck in a pit excavated for footpath construction work.A video of the incident went viral, showing a rescue van of the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services being pulled out with the help of a departmental crane. The incident occurred near Paldi Crossroads on Friday when the vehicle was moving along the side of the road.Officials said the left side of the van slipped into a stretch being excavated for footpath work, causing the front tyre to get stuck. The vehicle was pulled out before it could sink further.Fire officer J N Khadiya said, “The fire brigade crane, which was already present at the spot, immediately pulled the vehicle back onto the road.”Sources in the AMC said that, according to guidelines, civic works are required to be completed or suspended before the onset of the monsoon on June 15. However, footpath construction was still underway at the location, resulting in the incident.
