Vama Sarathi launches book fair, reading room for police families

Lucknow: In a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at encouraging reading habits, creativity and holistic personality development among children and family members of police personnel, the Uttar Pradesh Police Family Welfare Association, ‘Vama Sarathi’, on Saturday launched a book fair and a dedicated reading room at the Lucknow Police Lines.The day-long programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from police families, students, authors, historians, theatre personalities and educationists. Activities included a book exhibition, author interactions, literary discussions, essay and creative writing competitions, handwriting workshops, open mic sessions, extempore contests, quizzes, collage-making events and cultural performances.Addressing the gathering, Vama Sarathi president Meenakshi Singh stressed the importance of cultivating reading habits among children, describing educated and value-driven youngsters as society’s greatest asset.“Books play a crucial role in shaping young minds, broadening perspectives and enabling children to make informed choices in life,” she said.Singh also highlighted the association’s outreach programmes over the past year, including Yoga Day celebrations, book donation drives, summer camps, industrial visits, career counselling sessions, Pariksha Pe Charcha events, Basant Panchami celebrations, Children’s Day programmes and various creative competitions. According to the association, nearly 29,000 children and other participants have benefited from these initiatives.
