Gurgaon: A truck helper died after he got buried under sand and gravel when the truck’s driver offloaded the material without realising the victim was standing behind it. The incident happened in Sector 113 early on Friday.According to a complaint filed by the victim’s father, Priyanshu was helping with transportation of sand and gravel at a stockyard in Sector 113. After reaching there around 1 am, the driver asked Priyanshu to get off the vehicle and open the truck’s rear gate for unloading.As the helper opened the rear gate, a heap of sand and gravel first trapped his legs. His father said he screamed for help, but the driver did not hear him and continued lifting the truck body hydraulically, unloading the entire consignment. Soon, Priyanshu was completely buried beneath sand and gravel. The truck driver was on the run at the time of filing this report. Police said the first information about the incident reached Bajghera police station through an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) call on July 3, informing them that a boy was buried under gravel at a stockyard in Sector 113.By the time police reached the spot, an ERV team was already there and had pulled him out from beneath the gravel and taken him to Manipal Hospital in Palam Vihar. He was totally unconscious at this point.Police said, when asked about his age at the hospital, the truck’s owner said Priyanshu was 20 years old. However, the complaint submitted by his father said the victim was 16 years old. The hospital said the victim succumbed to his injuries sustained in what was described in the medical records as a road traffic accident.Proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were initiated. The post-mortem examination was scheduled subsequently. Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the accident and the role of the driver in what happened. Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, Durga Prasad Maurya, Bajghera police registered a case under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on Friday. They have seized the truck. No arrests have been made in the case yet.
