GURGAON: The Gurgaon Police has apprehended a person for alleged strangling a 10-year-old boy and snatching his mobile phone in Prem Nagar area, officials said on Saturday. The accused, identified as 19-year-old Sachin, a resident of Ashok Vihar, was arrested near the Gurgaon bus stand on Saturday, less than 24 hours after the alleged incident, police said.According to investigators, Sachin is a drug addict and allegedly committed the robbery to fund his addiction.A purported video of the incident had earlier gone viral on social media, prompting widespread attention.Police said a man and a woman seen in the viral video were also detained and questioned. However, the investigation found that the two had no connection to the accused and were not involved in the robbery. According to police, a man filed a complaint at Sector-14 police station on Friday saying his 10-year-old son was on his way to return his aunt’s mobile phone, when an unidentified youth allegedly approached him from behind, choked him, and snatched the mobile phone before fleeing.Based on the complaint, police registered a case and a joint team from Sector-14 police station and the Crime Branch, Sector-17, arrested the accused near the Gurgaon bus stand. “During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused is addicted to drugs and committed the robbery alone to finance his addiction. He had previously undergone treatment at a de-addiction centre and had also been missing from home for the past 10-12 days. We are questioning the accused,” a Gurgaon Police spokesperson said.
