400 sacks of urea seized in Cachar

Silchar: Assam Police seized 400 sacks of subsidised urea from a truck near the Assam-Mizoram border in Cachar district on Friday evening, foiling an alleged attempt to smuggle the fertiliser into Mizoram and arresting the driver.Acting on specific intelligence, a team from the Lailapur police patrol outpost intercepted the truck during a special operation supervised by senior Cachar police officers. During a search, police found the urea consignment concealed beneath food items. Each sack weighed 45.130 kg.The driver was identified as Sahirul Islam Laskar, 26 , a resident of Khulichhara village under Dholai in Cachar district, and was taken into custody.Police also seized the truck and allegedly forged documents believed to have been used to facilitate illegal transportation of the fertiliser. The accused and the seized items were handed over to Dholai police station for legal action. Further investigation is under way to identify others involved in the alleged interstate smuggling network and trace the intended recipients in Mizoram.
