Mapusa: Mapusa police registered a case against six persons, including a development firm, for allegedly forging property documents and impersonating a landlord who died more than five decades ago to usurp an 1,850sqm plot at Pomburpa in Bardez.The fraud came to light after advocate Gajendranath Usgaonkar, a resident of Alto-Porvorim, lodged a complaint.Police said the accused allegedly conspired before July 2021 in Mapusa and impersonated the original landlord, Francisco Do Rosario Fernandes, who died on Nov 2, 1970, in Harare, Zimbabwe.Investigators alleged that the accused fabricated ownership and transaction documents in Fernandes’ name and used them to transfer rights over the property to themselves, thereby cheating the legal heirs and depriving them of their inheritance.Those named in the FIR are Shantaram Dessai, Dattaram Dessai and Kashibai Dessai, all residents of Ambedem, Sattari; Ganpat Parab and Jyoti Parab of Dattawadi, Mapusa; A Developers and Promoters; and other unknown persons.A case has been registered under IPC sections 419, 420, 465, 466, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B read with section 34. Investigating officer PSI Viraj Korgaonkar said notices under section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita have been issued to the accused.
