Chennai: The death toll in the ammonia gas leak at a private seafood processing unit in Tiruvallur district has increased to 18 after another worker died while undergoing treatment at a govt hospital, according to a health department bulletin issued on Friday.The latest fatality, Alathi Maharana Juanga from Odisha, was reported on Thursday. A total of 83 workers were affected by the leak, which occurred at a seafood processing and export facility in Kannigaipair-Manjangaranai near Periyapalayam.Among the 18 workers who lost their lives, 15 were from Odisha, two from Assam, and one from Jharkhand. The mortal remains of 14 victims have been airlifted to Odisha, while two were flown to Assam and one to Jharkhand. The body of the remaining victim will be transported after the completion of legal formalities.
