Ludhiana: BSNL SIM cards have now become available at the Head Post Office in the city. The move follows an MoU between the department of posts and BSNL, under which post offices in the country are being used as points of sale.Balbir Singh, senior superintendent of post offices, confirmed that the agreement has already been implemented and the sale has commenced. The initiative is aimed at improving access to telecom services by leveraging the extensive postal network. The postal department’s wide reach is expected to make it easier for residents, to obtain new connections without having to visit dedicated telecom offices, an official said. The agreement allows post offices to function as customer service points for BSNL.Customers purchasing SIM cards at post offices will have to complete the standard KYC formalities required for mobile connections.The initiative is expected to provide a convenient, accessible and reliable option for obtaining BSNL services through the postal network, an official said.They said the sale facility would be rolled out at additional post offices in the city in the coming days. “While private companies have their offices spread out in the city, those wanting a BSNL connection have limited options and relatively lower footfall at BSNL facilities. Post offices offer a convenient space for them to get the SIM cards and also get recharge done,” he said.
