Man, son die as wall collapses on their house in Bharuch

SuratSurat: A 40-year-old man and his 20-year-old son were killed, while two women were injured, after the compound wall of an under-construction commercial complex collapsed on their house near Ali Matariya Lake in Bharuch on Wednesday amid the season ‘s first heavy rain. The victims were identified as Ashwin Vasava, 40 , and his son, Ashish, 20 . The incident occurred when a section of the boundary wall of the World Trade Centre shopping complex gave way and crashed onto a house in an adjoining slum.Personnel from the Bharuch Fire Brigade rescued four people trapped under the debris. Ashwin and Ashish were declared dead, while the two injured women were shifted to hospital for treatment.Police cordoned off the area as a large crowd gathered despite the continuing rain. The incident has triggered allegations of negligence against the builders. Local residents claimed they repeatedly raised concerns over inadequate safety measures at the construction site, particularly because excavated soil wasdumped towards the lakeside adjoining the slum, where several families have been living for years.Residents also alleged that trucks carrying soil, sand and other construction material frequently ply through the city during the day despite restrictions imposed by the district administration on the movement of heavy vehicles. The Bharuch police registered a case of accidental death and launched an investigation. Authorities are also expected to examine whether safety norms at the construction site were violated.
