Chandigarh: Congress MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal on Tuesday accused the AAP govt of failing to tackle the power crisis in Punjab, alleging that prolonged outages were affecting farmers, industries, traders and domestic consumers. In a statement, Dhaliwal claimed the govt had failed to fulfil its promise of providing uninterrupted electricity and had also fallen short of its assurance of supplying farmers with eight hours of power during the paddy season, forcing many to protest. He further alleged that the ongoing strike by power department employees and the issuance of estimated electricity bills had compounded consumers’ problems, while industries were facing the prospect of production disruptions.Dhaliwal demanded that the govt issue a White Paper on the state’s power situation, disclose details of expensive power purchases, ensure optimum utilisation of thermal power plants, restore uninterrupted electricity supply to farmers, industries and households, and formulate a long-term energy policy to prevent similar crises in future.
