Assam health min sets roadmap to place AMCH among country’s top 50 med colleges

Dibrugarh: Health and family welfare and medical education minister Ashok Singhal visited Assam Medical College and Hospital on Monday.Singhal inspected the Super Speciality Block, Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Block, and Casualty Ward, and interacted with patients regarding service quality, medicine availability, cleanliness, and facilities.He later chaired a review meeting with AMCH principal Dr Sanjeeb Kakati, the hospital superintendent, heads of departments, professors and senior doctors to assess infrastructure, staffing, patient care management and progress of expansion projects.“Our goal is clear. We want to see AMCH among the top 50 medical colleges in India. This requires a sustained and coordinated effort to upgrade healthcare services, strengthen infrastructure and elevate academic standards,” Singhal said.He said the effort must go beyond construction. “It is not just about infrastructure. We need to focus on patient care quality, research output, faculty development and overall hospital management. Every department has a role to play in this transformation,” he said, issuing strategic guidelines to fast-track the process.Later, Singhal chaired a separate review with Dibrugarh district health and family welfare department officials on key health indicators, including non-communicable disease (NCD) screening, the tuberculosis eradication campaign and maternal and child health programmes.State industries and commerce minister Bimal Borah and Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan accompanied him.
