NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old woman was stabbed to death allegedly by her husband when she was asleep at a relative’s house in Karkardooma, east Delhi, on Sunday.Anuj Joshi, the husband who has an ice cream cart in Lucknow, suspected that his wife, Sonam, was involved in an affair. He travelled from Lucknow to kill her. He has been arrested.Police got information about a woman lying in a pool of blood inside a room in Karkardooma village Sunday. The police team that went to the house found Sonam dead with multiple stab wounds. A preliminary investigation indicates that she was stabbed at least six times.Sonam, also from Lucknow, worked as a domestic help in Noida. She came to stay at sister-in-law Kaushal’s house in Karkardooma village.RP Meena, deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara), said forensic evidence was collected from the scene. The body was later taken away for a post-mortem examination.During the inquiry, police found out that Anuj (35) had allegedly planned the murder and bought a knife in Lucknow. He took a bus to Delhi. After reaching Karkardooma village around 5.40 am Sunday, he entered Kaushal’s house, saying that he wanted to drink water. Once inside, he went to the room where Sonam was sleeping and stabbed her multiple times.After the attack, Anuj allegedly hid the knife in a plastic bag inside the room. However, other people in the house as well as neighbours, who were alerted by the commotion, overpowered him and handed him over to the police. The murder weapon was later found on him.Anuj told police that he suspected Sonam was in an illicit relationship, which he claimed was the motive behind the killing.Police said Anuj was previously married and has two children from the first marriage. After divorcing his first wife, he married Sonam, and had three children with her. All five children live with him in Lucknow.
