Dibrugarh: Lakhimpur police seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) with a face value of Rs 33,59,500 during naka checking at Dhalpur Out Post on Monday.Two men, Jehiril Islam and Haidar Ali of Daulatpur in Bongalmora, were arrested while allegedly transporting the counterfeit notes to Guwahati. Police intercepted the vehicle on the Bongalmora-Guwahati route during routine checks and recovered a large quantity of fake Rs 500 notes.The seizure has again highlighted Bongalmora in Lakhimpur district, which has frequently figured in cases linked to counterfeit currency and fake-gold rackets. A senior police officer said the notes are being examined and investigators are working to identify the source of the consignment, the wider network and the intended recipients.“The operation was carried out on the basis of intensified naka checking and two persons were detained after a huge quantity of fake Rs 500 notes was found in the vehicle,” the official said.Police said Lakhimpur remains among districts flagged as hotspots for such crimes, with previous operations leading to repeated recoveries from the region.
