PUNE: Before allegedly killing Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal, the two accused, Siya and Chetan, visited Lohagad Fort to identify a suitable location and conduct “practice sessions” for the murder, police said on Sunday, describing the crime as a carefully planned conspiracy.Investigators said the alleged conspiracy was well planned, with Siya Goyal (20) and her alleged lover Chetan Chaudhary (22) working out every detail of the murder, from selecting the location and deciding on a signal to ensuring Goyal remained out of harm’s way during the fatal push.Police took Goyal to Lohagad Fort on Sunday to recreate the crime scene using a dummy as part of the investigation. The exercise was aimed at establishing the sequence of events leading to Agarwal’s death. The official said and both have admitted that they had visited the fort to find a suitable spot to execute the plan and to do some “practice”.“We are yet to ascertain which other spot they had practised at,” said the official.According to investigators, Goyal was instructed to signal Chaudhary by sitting down, either on the pretext of drinking water or tying her shoelaces.Once she sat, Chaudhary would approach from behind and push Agarwal off the cliff.“The signal was chosen deliberately so that Goyal would not be within the victim’s reach during the fatal push. They feared that if Chetan pushed Ketan and the latter tried to grab Siya while falling, she too could fall into the gorge. The plan was made keeping her safety in mind,” he said.Police also said Chaudhary took several steps to avoid leaving a trail. Instead of driving, he travelled nearly 90 km from Pune to Lohagad Fort on a scooter, fearing a car could be traced through toll plaza records.“Chaudhary travelled to Lohagad Fort on the morning of June 18. He chose a scooter over a car as he feared the car could be detected at a toll plaza. We have seized the scooter,” said a police officer, who is part of the investigation.Investigators further found that Chaudhary changed his appearance after reaching the fort.“He climbed the fort wearing a hoodie. Later, he removed it and remained in a black T-shirt. While leaving, he put on the hoodie again,” the official said, adding that investigators believe it was done to avoid attracting attention.Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary were arrested for allegedly conspiring to kill 25-year-old Ketan Agarwal by pushing him off a cliff at Lohagad Fort on June 18.(With PTI inputs)
