KOLKATA: The death toll in the collapse of an under-construction warehouse in Kolkata’s Taratala area has risen to 14, with 19 others injured, as rescue teams continued to search through the debris on Friday.The warehouse, located off Hyde Road, collapsed on Wednesday while construction work was underway, trapping several labourers under the rubble.Personnel from the NDRF, SDRF, Army, fire services and Kolkata Police have been carrying out round-the-clock rescue operations.Five people, including the lessee of the plot where the warehouse was being constructed, have been arrested on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the incident, while police said further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.The state government has announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those killed and Rs 1 lakh for the injured, besides bearing the cost of their treatment.
