Panchkula:A Panchkula court on Monday sentenced a 30-year-old man to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment in a 2021 rape case. The court of additional sessions judge Manish Dua also imposed a fine of ₹52,000 on the convict.The man was convicted under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. Originally from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, he had been residing in Panchkula.According to the prosecution, the accused lured the victim and attempted to establish physical relations. When she resisted, he threatened her, following which she lodged a complaint.The FIR was registered on Dec 13, 2021, at the Women Police Station, Panchkula. The accused was arrested the following day after preliminary investigations and evidence collection.
