UT doctors adopt 115 TB patients, pledge nutritional support under Nikshay Mitra campaign

Chandigarh: The doctors of the UT health department adopted 115 tuberculosis (TB) patients under the Nikshay Mitra Initiative during the ongoing TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan – 100 Days Campaign Tuesday.Under this initiative, the doctors have voluntarily come forward as Nikshay Mitras and pledged to provide nutritious food baskets to the adopted TB patients throughout the duration of their treatment. The nutritional support will supplement medical treatment and help improve treatment adherence, recovery, and overall well-being of the patients.The Nikshay Mitra Initiative, launched under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), encourages individuals, institutions, organisations, and community leaders to support TB patients through nutritional, social, and vocational assistance. The initiative reflects the spirit of collective responsibility and community ownership in the fight against TB.The activity was undertaken as part of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan – 100 Days Campaign, which focuses on reaching vulnerable and high-risk populations through intensified screening, early diagnosis, preventive treatment, and community engagement.Speaking on the occasion, health officials emphasised that TB elimination cannot be achieved by the health system alone and requires active participation from all sections of society. The campaign is being conducted under the theme: “YES! We Can End TB – Led by Bharat, Powered by Jan Bhagidari”The health department has appealed to citizens, organisations, educational institutions, and corporate partners to join the Nikshay Mitra Initiative and contribute towards ensuring nutritional and social support for TB patients.
