With 75% rain deficit so far, reservoirs have less than 50% water in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: The state eagerly awaits the onset of southwest monsoon as the water reservoirs in the state have less than 50% water cumulatively. Several of the reservoirs have less than 25% water remaining. The state govt has earlier announced that they have made preparations for the possible El Nino year with water management to ensure that the state has adequate drinking water for both humans and livestock. While some lakes in the 7-km periphery of the main Narmada canal will be filled with water from the Narmada, work has been initiated to ensure maximum water conservation. Some of the most affected areas include Saurashtra and Kutch. Some regions have already received pre-monsoon showers in the past few days. However, the long-period average (LPA) by India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated that Gujarat has one of the highest deficits at 75% till June 22. The state has received 15mm rain compared to normal 59.2mm average rainfall.
