Guwahati: A joint operation by Manipur Police, CRPF, RAF, CoBRA units of CRPF and the Army led to a major recovery of arms and ammunition following a three-day operation involving an exchange of fire with suspected militants in the hill areas of Manipur from June 20 to 22.Manipur Police stated that security forces launched coordinated operations in the regions of Leilon Vaiphei, Leilon Munlui, P Moulding Sempa and Leilon Khunou in Kangpokpi district, as well as Molhoi in Churachandpur district, among adjoining locations.During the operation, security personnel came under fire from suspected militants, triggering an exchange of fire. The operation continued across difficult terrain for three days, culminating in the recovery of a significant cache of weapons and warlike stores.According to security inputs, the recovered arms include 17 single- and double-barrel guns, along with eight high-powered weapons such as two AK-47 rifles, one M4 carbine, two SLRs, one SKS rifle and an improvised .303 sniper rifle. The security forces also recovered 11 SBL rifles, along with assorted ammunition, communication equipment and other warlike stores used by armed groups.Security forces said the recovery indicates continued presence of concealed armed infrastructure in remote hill pockets, even as operations against militant groups remain ongoing across Manipur’s sensitive zones.Further combing operations are underway in adjoining areas to trace additional caches and identify those involved, officials added.
