Gandhinagar: Gujarat govt announced on Monday that former Agniveers will get a 20% reservation in direct recruitment to Class III posts in the state police armed units, the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), the jail department, and the forest guard cadres.The former Agniveers will also be exempt from physical fitness tests and granted relaxation in the prescribed upper age limit, the govt said on Monday. “The CM has decided to exempt former Agniveers from the physical efficiency test required for such recruitment, and allow an age relaxation of up to three years beyond the standard upper age limit. For members of the first batch under the Agniveer scheme, he has further directed that the upper age limit relaxation be extended up to 5 years,” an official statement said.The ex-Agniveers can now apply for posts such as armed police sub-inspector, armed police constable, SRP platoon commander, and police constable in the police force. Besides, they will be eligible for direct recruitment as ‘jailer Group-2’ and ‘jail sepoy’ under the jail department, as well as forest guard (Class III) and forester (Class III) under the forest and environment department.“The govt has taken an important decision to provide 20% reservation to former Agniveers in direct recruitment to Class III categories in various departments of the state govt,” CM Bhupendra Patel posted on his X handle.Deputy CM and home minister Harsh Sanghavi said, “The brave Agniveers who safeguarded our nation’s borders will now strengthen Gujarat’s internal security and law enforcement.” In a post on X, he added, “With relaxation in physical tests and age limits, this visionary step honours their service, values their discipline and creates new avenues for them to continue serving the nation and society.”
