Varanasi: Police in Azamgarh have arrested a man for allegedly murdering his 24-year-old partner after her skeletal remains were recovered from bushes near Badaila Tal in the Jahanaganj police station area on Saturday evening, nearly a month after she went missing.The accused, Manoj Yadav alias Murha (28), was arrested after he allegedly confessed to the crime. The deceased was a resident of Nai village under the Mehnagar police station limits.According to police, the woman’s mother had lodged a missing person complaint at Mehnagar police station on June 19, stating that her daughter had gone to meet Manoj, a resident of Jalalpur village in the Jahanaganj area, on May 22 and had not returned home. Family members searched for her for several weeks but were unable to trace her whereabouts.During interrogation, Manoj claimed he had been in a relationship with the woman since 2017 and that the two wanted to get married. Manoj claimed that the woman had come to meet him at his residence near Chakrapanpur market on May 22, where an argument broke out between them. He allegedly assaulted her, resulting in her death.According to investigators, the accused then disposed of the body in bushes near Badaila Tal. Based on information provided by the accused, police recovered the woman’s skeletal remains from the site. The victim’s mother identified the body through her clothes and ornaments, police said.Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar said additional charges have been added to the case and all aspects are being investigated.
