Rajkot: The reported incident of ragging at Govt Medical College in Bhavnagar has triggered a sharp response from the Indian Medical Association (IMA), with its local branch demanding immediate action and stronger safeguards to protect students amid growing concern over campus safety in medical institutions.The IMA Bhavnagar branch submitted a representation to the dean of the college, calling for strict action against those involved in the alleged incident.In a letter signed by IMA Bhavnagar president Dr Dilip Hadiyal and honorary secretary Dr Harpalsinh Dabhi, the association expressed deep concern and strongly condemned the alleged actions.The letter stressed that every medical student has the right to a safe, dignified and mutually respectful learning environment, adding that any form of harassment runs counter to the core values of the medical profession.To prevent recurrence, the IMA urged the college administration to strengthen its anti-ragging committee and squad. It recommended regular awareness programmes, surprise inspections and the introduction of an effective, confidential grievance redressal mechanism.
