Three cattle smugglers caught after police encounter

Varanasi: A joint team of police personnel from several police stations and SOG arrested three cattle smugglers in Sonbhadra district late on Wednesday. Two of them suffered bullet injury in legs and were admitted to hospital for treatment.Sonbhadra ASP (operations) Rishabh Runwal on Thursday said that on receiving inputs regarding movement of cattle smugglers, policemen from Raipur, Pannuganj, Kotwali and Robertsganj police stations and a team of SOG and surveillance swung into action. They installed barriers at various points near Sarsot on Madhupur-Naugarh-Chakraghatta road and tried to stop a pickup van around 1am. On seeing cops, the miscreants opened fire at them and tried to flee.In retaliatory firing by the cops, two accused–Vikas Yadav and Meraj Quraishi of Kaimur (Bhabhua) in Bihar– suffered bullet injury in legs and were caught with their third accomplice Vijay Pratap Yadav of Chandauli. Police seized two pistols, cartridges, six cattle and a pickup van from them.
