Amritsar: Two days ahead of BJP national president Nitin Nabin’s maiden visit to Punjab after taking over as party chief, new Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon and BJP national general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh visited Amritsar on Thursday, paid obeisance at the Golden Temple and held a public outreach programme.Nabin is scheduled to visit Amritsar on June 20 and is expected to participate in International Yoga Day events with Border Security Force personnel at the Attari border on June 21.Dhillon and Chugh began the day with a foot march from Bhandari Bridge to the Golden Temple and later paid homage to the martyrs at Jallianwala Bagh.Expressing confidence that the BJP would form the govt in Punjab in 2027, Dhillon said the state needed new thinking, strong leadership and rapid development to become drug-free, corruption-free, safe and prosperous. “We will strengthen the party organisation at the grassroots and take the people’s issues to the forefront,” he said, adding that the BJP was expanding its reach across Punjab.Chugh announced the BJP would contest all 117 assembly seats in Punjab on its own.Alleging that Punjab was grappling with drug abuse, gangsterism, corruption and law-and-order issues, Chugh said the BJP would focus its campaign on governance, public safety, employment generation and economic growth.Later, Dhillon and Chugh visited Giani Punjabi Lassi shop, where they urged the youth to shun drugs, maintain good health and contribute towards building a stronger Punjab.
