Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh recorded a peak electricity demand of 30,760 MW on Tuesday as intense summer temperatures drove up power consumption across the state.According to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), demand remained above 29,500 MW on June 14 and 15, making Uttar Pradesh one of the country’s highest power-consuming states during the current heatwave. The utility said power supply was maintained across the state despite weather-related challenges, including high temperatures, strong winds and intermittent rainfall.UPPCL officials said maintenance teams have been carrying out fault repair and network monitoring work to address local disruptions and consumer complaints. The corporation is also undertaking infrastructure upgrades under its 2025-26 business plan, including measures aimed at reducing tripping and strengthening the distribution network. The rise in demand comes as projections indicate that Uttar Pradesh’s electricity requirements are likely to increase further. Citing the Central Electricity Authority’s Load Generation Balance Report (LGBR) 2026-27, the Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad said the state’s peak demand could reach 33,033 MW in 2026-27, second only to Maharashtra’s projected peak demand of 36,858 MW.The consumers’ body has urged the state govt and power utility to prepare for higher demand during the coming months by strengthening transmission and distribution infrastructure, ensuring adequate manpower and improving equipment availability. Its chairman, Avadhesh Kumar Verma, said rising electricity consumption would require continued investment in substations, grid infrastructure and distribution networks. He also pointed to the need for long-term capacity augmentation to support growing consumer demand and reduce pressure on the system during peak hours.
