Gorakhpur: BJP MP Ravi Kishan on Sunday launched a scathing attack on opposition parties, accusing them of committing a ‘grave injustice’ by opposing the Women’s Reservation Bill.Speaking on the occasion of Parashurama Jayanti, the Gorakhpur MP said that women across the country would never forgive those who opposed the legislation. “This is the biggest injustice against women. They have deprived daughters and mothers of their rightful share,” he said.Highlighting the country’s demographics, Ravi Kishan said that nearly half of India’s 1.4 billion population comprises women, who deserve greater political representation. He added that delimitation could increase seats in growing cities like Gorakhpur, creating more opportunities for women candidates. He further alleged that Opposition parties were hesitant to empower women politically and claimed that voters, particularly women, would respond through the ballot.Expressing confidence in future electoral prospects, Kishan said the BJP-led NDA would secure victory in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and return to power at the Centre in 2029 under Narendra Modi, paving the way for reintroduction of the bill. The MP also accused opposition parties of wanting to confine women to domestic roles, a claim he termed unacceptable, and urged women voters to “respond strongly through their votes.”The Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill related to women’s reservation failed to pass in the Lok Sabha on Friday, securing 298 votes in favour and 230 against, falling short of the required 352 votes. The bill proposed increasing Lok Sabha seats from 543 to 816 and reserving 33% seats for women.
