Varanasi: Ghazipur police arrested a rape accused, Santosh Yadav (40), during an encounter at Karhar Buzurg trijunction in Mardah police station area of Ghazipur district In the early hours of Wednesday.The accused suffered bullet injuries in both legs and was admitted to CHC for treatment.Kasimabad CO Anubhav Rajarshi said that acting on a tip-off, a police team led by inspector in-charge Taravati Yadav was conducting a check at Karhar Buzurg trijunction. Seeing the police, Santosh, a resident of Devaria village in Jamania Kotwali, opened fire at the police team. In the retaliatory firing by the cops, he was shot in both legs.The police recovered a pistol, a cartridge, two empty shells, a bike, and Rs 750 in cash from him. Santosh was booked under Sections 137(2), 64(1), 115(2), 351(3) BNS and 3/4 POCSO Act. On the basis of the recovery, a case under Section 109(1) BNS and 3/25/27 Arms Act was registered. Further legal action is being taken against the arrested accused.
