Senior citizen hit by speeding motorist dies in hospital in Mumbai

Mumbai: A 67-year-old woman, crossing the road with her relatives, suffered serious injuries after being hit by a speeding motorist in Goregaon (E) on Monday and subsequently died in a hospital. Vanrai police have registered a case of rash driving and negligence against the motorist, Sahil Karande (28).The deceased was identified as Rehana Kachwala, a resident of Motilal Nagar.On Monday, around 3pm, Rehana, her sister-in-law Amina (66), and the latter’s granddaughter Mariyam (15) visited the municipal Muslim Kabrastan in Goregaon (E) to offer prayers at Amina’s mother’s grave. While heading back home, Amina and Mariyam crossed the road together and Rehana was behind them. While crossing the road towards the service road subway, a vehicle hurtled towards Rehana from Aarey check naka. It hit Rehana, causing her to bleed severely from her forehead and hand. She also suffered bruises to her arms and legs and lost consciousness.Karande halted the vehicle and soon a crowd of bystanders gathered. They carried Rehana into the vehicle and Karande, who is employed as a driver, took her to a private hospital.At the hospital, Rehana was moved to the ICCU after doctors diagnosed a rib fracture. Amina started calling up her relatives to inform them about the accident.In the meantime, Karande left the hospital. Doctors said blood had accumulated in Rehana’s chest and she succumbed to her injuries around 6.30pm. Vanrai Police was informed and a case was subsequently registered.
