Chandigarh: Nishant Kumar Yadav, Chandigarh deputy commissioner-cum-district election officer (DEO), on Tuesday reviewed the progress of the enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls through video conference.The review assessed on-ground achievements after the enumeration exercise began on June 15, 2026.For the purpose of revision, Chandigarh has been divided into 10 blocks with each overseen by an assistant electoral registration officer (AERO) and supported by 614 booth level officers (BLOs) working at the field level.The officials informed the DC that enumeration forms had already been distributed to approximately 1,10,000 electors out of the total 5,16,427 electors in the city within the first two days of the drive.“In a standout performance, eight BLOs have completed the distribution of forms across their respective booth areas in just two days,” said a UT spokesperson.Yadav underlined the importance of the Special Intensive Revision, stating that accurate and updated electoral rolls formed the foundation of free and fair elections. He also directed all AEROs and BLOs to ensure that no eligible voter was left out and that the entire exercise was carried out meticulously as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.Appreciating the swift work of the field staff, the DC announced that the eight BLOs, who have completed their distribution targets, would be honoured with appreciation certificates. The move aims to motivate all BLOs to maintain high levels of efficiency and dedication.The remaining BLOs have been asked to accelerate the process and complete the distribution at the earliest. The enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision is scheduled to continue till July 14, 2026, with officials emphasising the need for 100% coverage within the given timeline.
