Fake bride, two others held in Chittorgarh marriage fraud

Bhilwara: Chittorgarh Kotwali police Sunday arrested three people, including a fake bride, for allegedly duping a family of Rs 2.4 lakh through a sham marriage.Chittorgarh SP Manish Tripathi said the case surfaced after complainant Harisingh Rajput of Madhya Pradesh reported that his brother’s biodata and mobile number were circulated in WhatsApp groups to find a match. The family was then approached by Ramal Jat, who claimed he could arrange a bride for Rs 2.4 lakh.On April 13, the family came to Chittorgarh, where Jat introduced them to Shilpi Kumari Jatav (19) and her purported relatives, later identified as Mahendrasingh of Gangrar and Bhairusingh Panwar of Patel Nagar, Bhilwara city, who allegedly posed as the girl’s father. Police said marriage formalities were completed at the collectorate premises and the money was handed over.Suspicion arose when the bride allegedly tried to flee with another man during a visit to Jogania Mata temple. She was caught, leading to a confrontation that exposed the alleged fraud.Police arrested Shilpi, a native of Kasganj district in Uttar Pradesh currently living in Bhilwara, along with her husband Vishal Suwalka (29) and another alleged gang member, Suresh. Police said efforts are on to trace other members of the gang and investigation is continuing.
