Ahmedabad: The district education officer (DEO) of Ahmedabad city has initiated action on proposals submitted by secondary and higher secondary schools seeking reduction of classes due to declining student strength and related factors. Around 12 schools have been issued official notices to remain present for a personal hearing regarding their requests.According to sources, these schools have proposed the closure of nearly 17 classes from Classes 9 to 12. The DEO office has scheduled a hearing on June 19 at 11am, where a final decision will be taken after reviewing each case.As per official instructions, only the school trustee or an authorised representative will be allowed to attend the hearing. Schools have been directed to bring essential documents, including staff details, student enrolment data, and all necessary supporting evidence. Additionally, any teaching or non-teaching staff likely to be affected by the proposed class closures must also be present during the hearing.The schools called for the hearing include institutions from areas such as Bapunagar, Odhav, Meghaninagar, Shahibaug, Paldi, Naroda, Amraiwadi, New Vadaj, Vasna, Asarwa, and Ambawadi.The DEO will take a final decision after the hearing process is completed.
