Varanasi: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sah-Sarkaryawah Krishna Gopal while addressing Vigyan Bharti’s 7th national convention at BHU here on Sunday said that India’s scientific history is as ancient as its cultural heritage. He referred to the guiding principle, “Science gives us height, and spirituality gives us depth”, and urged students and researchers to study India’s scientific heritage and carry it forward to future generations. While addressing a session on “India’s scientific tradition: From the ancient to the modern age” at the Vigyan Bharati’s 7th National Convention at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Gopal called upon the scientists, academicians, researchers, and students from across the country to go through India’s scientific history, mentioning it as ancient as its cultural heritage. He emphasised that in the Indian knowledge system, science and spirituality have always been complementary.Describing Kashi as the world’s oldest living city, he noted that cultural and intellectual traditions dating back thousands of years continue to thrive here even today. He articulated that in Indian philosophy, science is not confined merely to laboratories rather, all disciplines of knowledge — including music, dance, grammar, Ayurveda, mathematics, and philosophy — form a part of its broader scientific canvas. He asserted that the core objective of the Indian knowledge tradition has always been public welfare, environmental conservation, and the greater good of humanity.Recounting anecdotes from the lives of eminent scientists such as Mahendra Lal Sircar, Jagadish Chandra Bose, CV Raman, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, Vikram Sarabhai, Satish Dhawan, APJ Abdul Kalam, GN Ramachandran, Anna Mani, Atma Ram, and Yellapragada Subbarow, he highlighted how Indian minds achieved world-class breakthroughs despite limited resources.
