Ludhiana: Three consecutive stormy nights have crippled city’s electrical grid, causing widespread blackouts, damaging household appliances, and inflicting an estimated ₹3.5 crore in infrastructure damage. The destructive weather tore through the region late last night, toppling electricity poles, destroying transformers, and severing high-tension cables. The resulting outages were most severe in Civil Lines, Deep Nagar, Salem Tabri, and the Gill Road corridor.Residents in Salem Tabri reported severe voltage fluctuations that destroyed electrical appliances, while others received emergency alerts warning that power restoration would take until early morning.Residents criticised the state power utility, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), for constant systemic grid failures. “The area has been experiencing the exact same failures for three days,” said Deep Nagar resident Harsh. “We need a permanent solution.”PSPCL officials defended their emergency response, stating that while infrastructural losses were severe, field crews had restored power to the majority of affected areas within three hours of the initial storm damage.
