Phone heated, got hacked, says Mumbai garment worker after losing money to cyberfraud

Mumbai: A 32-year-old garment worker registered a police complaint after his phone “got heated and hacked” and he lost money as a result of clicking on a malicious image. Saki Naka Police registered an FIR and are probing further.The worker lives in Kurla and hails from Uttar Pradesh.On May 18, he was working at a garment workshop in Saki Naka. While surfing Facebook at work, he came across adult content. He noticed a nude image of a woman and clicked on it. After doing so, his mobile phone started to heat up. It hung for a while, and soon, he started receiving text alerts about debit transactions in his bank account.A sum of Rs 70,000 was debited from his bank account. The complainant realised that he was targeted by cyber fraudsters and dialled the cyber helpline ‘1930’. He was advised to register a complaint online, which he did. Subsequently, the Saki Naka police registered an FIR.
