Ahmedabad: In a major demolition drive at Isanpur’s Amba lake, teams from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) South Zone estate department on Friday demolished over 160 illegal temporary and permanent structures. Officials said the drive cleared up over 26,000 sq m of lake land.Officials stated, “The department has launched a drive to demolish illegal structures built around lakes in the city’s east. On Friday, an operation was conducted at Amba lake, located on Final Plot No. 59 of Town Planning Scheme No. 54 in Isanpur under Lambha ward. Notices had been issued to people who built these temporary/permanent structures within the lake’s boundary.”The drive commenced at 8am under police protection, and in the presence of officials from the South Zone estate department, health department, and fire and emergency services. The structures were divided into two blocks, and approximately 160 were demolished, clearing up a total of 26,305 sq m. Additionally, encroachments were removed from a 1,444 sq m reserved plot adjacent to the lake. AMC now plans to develop the lake area.
