Newborn found abandoned in cardboard box in Indira Nagar

Lucknow: A seven-day-old girl was found abandoned inside a cardboard box near a Convention Centre in the Ghazipur (Indira Nagar) police station area on Friday. According to police, a passerby heard the baby’s cries and alerted the emergency services. Upon receiving the information, teams from the PRV, Ghazipur police station, and Sarvodaya Nagar police outpost rushed to the spot. When officers opened the box, they found the newborn carefully wrapped and placed amid cotton padding. The infant was dressed in a pink top and wearing a diaper. Police immediately took the child into protective custody and arranged for a medical examination. Officials said information about the abandoned infant was received by the PRV at around 11:40 pm. A preliminary health check indicated that the baby was in stable condition and did not appear to have suffered any immediate medical complications. “The child has been handed over to the child protection authorities and is currently under the care of a child care centre,” officials said. ADCP, East Zone, Amol Murkut, said police have launched an investigation to trace the person responsible for abandoning the newborn. “We are examining CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the Convention Centre and adjoining roads to identify anyone seen carrying or leaving the box at the location,” he said. Police officials said efforts are underway to establish the identity of the infant’s parents and determine the circumstances under which the child was abandoned.
