Demand for Andheri West fire stn renewed after Juhu blaze

Mumbai: A day after a massive fire engulfed the top floor of a residential building in Juhu, BJP corporator Rupesh Sawarkar renewed his demand for the immediate development of a fire station at Chitrakoot Ground on Link Road. The demand was discussed at a meeting convened by Mumbai suburban guardian minister Ashish Shelar at the collector’s office in Bandra East. Senior officials from the BMC, police and revenue departments participated in the meeting to deliberate on the removal of alleged encroachments and the construction of the long-pending fire station.Eight people sustained injuries after a fire broke out in an air-conditioning unit on the sixth floor of an 11-storey residential building in Juhu on Thursday morning. In case of a fire in Andheri, fire tenders are sent from Marol, Goregaon or Irla fire station.Sawarkar alleged that in Andheri West, the plot, reserved for a fire station, has remained undeveloped for years and is instead being commercially exploited. “The same plot of land also has multiple hoardings that have been erected even when the BMC licence department has revoked the permission for it,” said Sawarkar.
