DRI’s Mumbai zonal unit arrests ‘mastermind’ of gold smuggling racket busted in 2025

Mumbai: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Mumbai Zonal Unit has arrested Aboobacker Siddique Moosa alias Siddik Payakki, the alleged mastermind of a gold smuggling racket busted last year.The case dates back to November 18, 2025, when DRI intercepted two passengers, Abdul Hameed Goliyadi and Rahamath Banu Abdul Hameed Goliyadi, who had arrived from Saudi Arabia after they crossed the customs green channel.Though both denied carrying any dutiable goods or contraband, officials grew suspicious after observing their movements and discomfort during questioning. The two men were subjected to X-ray examination after taking their written consent, which allegedly revealed three egg-shaped capsules concealed in the rectum of each passenger. DRI officials said the six capsules contained gold dust in wax form weighing a total 1,620gm net and valued at Rs 2.02 crore.During interrogation, the two accused allegedly named Moosa as the mastermind who promised them Rs 70,000 for smuggling the gold into India through body concealment.The DRI issued a Look Out Circular against Moosa after learning that he had fled to Bahrain. Last week, he was detained by immigration authorities at Bengaluru Airport upon his arrival in India and was subsequently arrested by DRI officials.
