Hyderabad: The body of Koduru Anuroop Reddy, 23, a Telangana youth who died while rescuing three friends from drowning in the US, reached Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday morning. It was later taken to his home in Kavadipalli village in Abdullapurmet, where the funeral was held amid emotional scenes.Anuroop died on May 29 at Toro Bayou Park in Louisiana. He had gone camping with friends when three of them accidentally slipped into the Sabine river while fishing. Anuroop jumped into the water and managed to rescue them, but his feet reportedly got entangled in a fishing net and he was swept away by strong currents.A native of Shaligowraram in Nalgonda district, Anuroop’s family had settled in Abdullapurmet on the outskirts of the city. He had moved to the US in 2024 and recently completed Master’s in computer science from the University of North Texas. He was expected to start work later this month.Chief minister A Revanth Reddy sent a letter of commendation, praising Anuroop’s courage. In his message, Revanth said the 23-year-old displayed exceptional bravery by risking his own life to save his friends and that his sacrifice reflected the highest values of humanity. He extended condolences to Anuroop’s parents Rajender Reddy and Durgabhavani, brother Ashrith Reddy and other family members, and assured them of the state govt’s support.Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy helped facilitate the return of the body. He coordinated with the Indian embassy and officials of Telangana NRI department. The body was transported from the airport to Kavadipalli in a special ambulance arranged by the state govt.
