Haryana Congress names mayoral candidates for Sonipat & Ambala

Chandigarh: The Haryana Congress on Saturday named Kamal Diwan and Kulwinder Kaur as the mayoral candidates for the municipal corporations of Sonipat and Ambala city, respectively. As per sources, deliberations are on to finalise the name of the mayoral candidate for Panchkula.Kamal Diwan is the son of former MLA Dev Raj Diwan, and the family enjoys a good political and social reputation in Sonipat city. Sonipat seat is open for general candidacy. Kulwinder Kaur comes from Backward Class (B) and she also comes from an influential family from Ambala city having rural-urban rapport. Kaur has strong support from local MLA Nirmal Singh as well as local leaders coming from the camp of former Union minister Selja.Lok Sabha MP from Ambala Varun Chaudhary confirmed that the party high command has finalised the two names. “Deliberations are in advance stage to finalise the name of candidate for Panchkula. There are around 12 aspirants who have been in the reckoning. Now, party leaders are picking each and every name one by one. Once we are through with mayor and Rewari civic body chief candidate, we shall proceed for the candidates of corporators,” said Varun Chaudhary.Notably, while the HPCC high command deliberate upon candidate, manifesto committee headed by Geeta Bhukkal had its first meeting to shortlist the issues to be covered. During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on the issues being faced by the public across various urban local bodies in the state, along with practical and effective solutions. The committee members emphasised the need to prepare a people-centric and inclusive manifesto, drawing upon suggestions and experiences gathered from the grassroots level.Speaking on the occasion, Bhukkal stated that suggestions for the manifesto have been invited not only from Members of Parliament, MLAs and district Congress presidents, but also from the general public, and a large number of responses have already been received. She further informed that a comprehensive and unified manifesto will be prepared for the three municipal corporations of Panchkula, Ambala and Sonipat, along with the Municipal Council of Rewari and the Municipal Committees of Sampla, Dharuhera and Uklana. The elimination of fear and corruption will be a key priority of the manifesto.Bhukkal expressed confidence that the manifesto being prepared by the committee will meet the expectations of the general public.
