Jodhpur: The Rajasthan High Court Thursday directed Jodhpur Central Jail authorities to ensure adequate medical facilities for Asaram, who is serving a life sentence for sexually assaulting a minor, considering his old age and fragile health condition. The order was passed by Justice Sanjeet Purohit while hearing a petition seeking specialised medical care, regular health check-ups and other facilities in prison. After examining Asaram’s medical records and previous judicial orders, the court instructed jail authorities to maintain the treatment and medical facilities currently being provided to him without interruption. The court further clarified that if his condition deteriorates or adequate treatment is unavailable within the jail, the administration may shift him to a hospital for necessary care. Counsel for Asaram argued that he has been suffering from multiple age-related ailments and requires continuous medical monitoring, specialised consultations, a prescribed diet, and essential amenities. The development comes days after Asaram’s health reportedly deteriorated Tuesday, following which he was shifted to an Ayurveda hospital for treatment.
