Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad police have seized and destroyed illicit liquor and related material, collectively worth Rs 40 lakh, between May 28 and June 2.The police also registered 181 cases and acted against 190 suspects during the same period. Of these cases, 11 were registered under Section 123 (causing hurt by means of poison) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), while the remaining cases were registered under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.The action followed deaths after the consumption of spurious liquor in Phugewadi and Dapodi.Pimpri Chinchwad police commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey has directed all police stations and the crime branch to take stringent action against suppliers and sellers of illicit country-made liquor.An officer from the Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch said during the drive, the police seized and destroyed 52,000 litres of illicit country-made liquor.“We will continue our drive against illicit liquor. If anyone has information about illegal activities in their area, they can inform the police on 112 or the Pimpri Chinchwad police control room number 9529691966,” the officer said.
