Chennai: A 75-year-old man, Raji, of Thottikkalai village near Tiruvallur, was allegedly beaten to death with a stone by his son-in-law Ravindar, following a dispute over dowry demands and the harassment of his daughter. Police have registered a murder case and launched a search for the accused, who is absconding.Raji’s daughter Tamilselvi, 40 had married Ravindar, 45, of the same locality. The couple has two sons and a daughter. Police said that Ravindar was unemployed and was an alcohol addict. He frequently harassed his wife by demanding money and jewellery and assaulted her. Raji is said to have supported the family financially whenever his daughter came asking for money.On Thursday night, Tamilselvi reportedly told her father that she was unable to bear her husband’s torture demanding dowry. When Raji confronted Ravindar, an argument broke out between the two, during which Ravindar allegedly pushed him to the ground.A few villagers pacified them and Ravindar left the place. Later that night, while Raji was sleeping in front of his house, Ravindar attacked him with a stone and fled the scene. Raji suffered severe injuries and died on the spot.Following a complaint lodged by Raji’s son Rayan to the Sevvapet police, officers rushed to the scene. The body was sent to the Tiruvallur Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
