Vasco: Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Friday resolved to hand over around 9,000sqm Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) land, which is presently in the possession of the municipality, to Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd (KTC) on a temporary basis. When several councillors raised queries on the allocation of land to the KTC, MMC chairperson Girish Borkar said, “The council has given approval to hand over its land to KTC on a temporary basis till the full-fledged bus stand at Mundvel, Vaddem gets constructed.”The opposition questioned public safety and feasibility in setting up of a temporary bus stand and a bus depot, thereby raising possibilities of traffic chaos and congestion, as the movement of the buses will be increased from the town areas.Opposition councillor Priya Raut opposed the proposal for handing over land to KTC. More than half a dozen councillors from the ruling panel also criticised Borkar for not having consulted them on the issue. They sought to know how much revenue the council would earn, and whether the PWD was called to evaluate the land parcel as it is prime property.Borkar said the land will be taken back by the municipality once the proposed construction at Mundvel is completed. “An agreement will be signed between the municipality and the KTC, considering all the aspects and giving the details of the concerns raised by the councillors,” he said.
