Chess, carrom and kitchen: Gurgaon to get a club for senior citizens soon
The four-storey club in Sector 43 is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore

Gurgaon: With a senior citizens’ club in Sector 43 nearing completion and plans underway for another club and an old-age home, HSVP is adding elderly-focused civic amenities to the city’s urban landscape. The four-storey club in Sector 43, near Golf Course Road, spans 1,500 square metres and is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore. “More than 80% of the structure is complete, and the building is expected to be ready for use by July 30,” said HSVP sub-divisional officer, NK Rana.Designed as a space for recreation and social interaction, the building will feature a spacious hall on every floor, two rooms, separate toilets for men and women and kitchen facilities. Dedicated game rooms for table tennis, carrom and chess are also part of the plan, offering elderly residents a place to stay active and socially connected.Construction on the club began nearly a year ago. Officials, however, have yet to decide who will operate the facility after completion. While HSVP is currently executing the project, it remains undecided whether management will stay with the authority or be handed over to MCG.For many senior citizens living in nearby gated colonies and high-rise apartments, the club is expected to provide a shared space designed specifically around their needs.Alongside the Sector 43 project, HSVP is also moving ahead with plans for a full-fledged old-age home in Sector 37. The authority has earmarked one acre of land for the facility, which is expected to provide assisted living and support services for elderly residents requiring care and a secure residential environment.Officials said cost estimates for the project are currently being prepared. Architectural plans, approvals and the tendering process will follow before construction begins. The proposed old-age home marks a broader attempt to build long-term support infrastructure for senior citizens in the city.Meanwhile, HSVP has also approved another senior citizens’ club in Sector 47. Planned on a similar 1,500-square-metre footprint, the facility is expected to offer amenities comparable to the Sector 43 club. The project is currently at the planning stage, with architectural drawings to be prepared next before it moves into tendering. Officials estimate that approvals and the bidding process could take three to four months before construction work starts.“HSVP intends to develop senior citizen clubs as integrated civic amenities across residential sectors — spaces where elderly residents can remain socially and physically engaged in safe and accessible environments,” said the official. For years, the city had few public spaces specifically designed for senior citizens. If operated efficiently, these projects could serve as models for elder-friendly urban design in Haryana, officials said.
