Chennai: The anti-corruption branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a second first information report (FIR) against a superintendent of GST and central excise department on the charges of accumulating disproportionate assets to the tune of 20.40 lakh. The latest FIR against GST Superintendent KN Annadurai of Dharmapuri range comes two years after he was caught along with another GST inspector demanding 5 lakh as a bribe apart from a monthly payout of 10,000 to clear GST dues to the tune of 1.5 crore of a private firm. CBI already registered a case against him in 2024 on the bribery complaint by the firm, searches were carried out in Annadurai’s residence in Krishnagiri and other properties, and various documents were seized. Scrutiny of the seized documents revealed that Annadurai was in possession of disproportionate assets.According to the FIR, Annadurai’s assets nearly tripled from 42 lakh in 2019 to 1.2 crore in 2024, while the total income was 78 lakh. Annadurai also spent about 65 lakh during the same period. The FIR also revealed that Annadurai purchased a lot of home appliances by cash, while gold ornaments, silver and bronze articles were received as gifts. To register a separate case against Annadurai based on the seized evidence, CBI wrote to the state govt seeking general consent in Nov last year. The home department in March issued a GO giving consent to CBI’s request, following which a fresh case has been registered for further investigation.
