FIR against 2 inspectors suspended for seeking sexual favour from rape survivor

Varanasi: Ballia police lodged FIR against two inspectors suspended on charges of seeking sexual favour from a rape survivor. Further investigation is in progress.Ballia CO (Rasra) Alok Kumar Gupta on Thursday said both suspended inspectors had been booked on charges of sexual harassment by word, gesture, act or object exhibition intended to insult modesty of a woman.Ballia SP Omvir Singh had on Wednesday said that inspectors Naresh Malik and Sanjay Shukla, posted as inspector (crime) and SHO at Ubhao police station, respectively, were suspended in connection with audio clip of a telephonic conversation that went viral on social media, in which one of them purportedly sought sexual favours from a rape survivor in exchange for filing a chargesheet against the rape accused, a a forest department sub-inspector, who was arrested and sent to jail on Feb 24.The rape survivor lodged FIR with Ubhao police on Feb 21 against a forest SI, alleging that the latter married her in a temple and made physical relations with her assuring to marry her in court too. But, when she asked him to complete formalities of court marriage, he removed all evidence of marriage and temple and refused to let her stay with him, she alleged.Malik, who had no connection with this case and was also transferred from the Ubhao police station in early Apr, got involved and started calling the rape survivor to seek sexual favours like meeting her alone to get the chargesheet filed in her case, said CO Rasra, adding that evidence including the audio clip was given only in the case of Malik. She has also levelled similar allegations against the SHO, although she did not give any evidence against him.
